Is it too much to hope they have developed a conscience? Few realize that the water purity and plentiful supply in Gaza were renowned and were fought over many times in history, including when the WW1 Allies needed to water their troops and animals as they advanced against the Ottoman Turks. That once renowned water quality and abundant supply have been ruined by Israeli behaviour since 1948.

Mr Abbott must immediately allow the Opposition to support the Government's Malaysian solution. If it works this may end the deaths and in flow of boat people. If it fails the Opposition will be proven correct. In any case the Opposition must pass the Legislation and then, if elected next year, it can change the Legislation. The Opposition is cynically refusing to pass the Malaysian solution just to keep the boat people issue alive so that it can capture the media headlines and try to win votes, all at the cost of innocent lives. We are much better than this as a people.
