Panetta Believes Israel Will Attack Iran this Spring

unilateral military strike on Iran within the next few months, according to David Ignatius of the Washington Post.

“Panetta believes there is a strong likelihood,” writes Ignatius, “that Israel will strike Iran in April, May or June,” in an attempt to impede Iran’s quest to acquire nuclear weapons.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disagrees with U.S. assessments that Iran’s nuclear program is civilian in nature and doesn’t want to risk Israeli security waiting for America to bomb Iran, which U.S. officials have said they won’t do under current circumstances.

“President Obama and Panetta are said to have cautioned the Israelis that the United States opposes an attack,” writes Ignatius, favoring instead a harsh set of economic sanctions as punishment for not building nuclear weapons.

“The Obama administration is conducting intense discussions about what an Israeli attack would mean for the United States: whether Iran would target U.S. ships in the region or try to close the Strait of Hormuz; and what effect the conflict and a likely spike in oil prices would have on the fragile global economy.”

While U.S. officials reportedly believe that Israel has not made a final decision to attack, the prospect of war is as close as ever.

I bet 10,000 dollars US they don't.

The Israeli people even don't want a war with Iran because they know it wouldn't just be Iran nor do they want the backlash. This is just posturing. Israeli's are more concerned with Jordan and Egypt right now. Even if Iran gets a nuclear weapon and than attacks Israel, Iran would be off the map the next day. There is no reason for them to attack Israel that directly and everyone knows it. The US has "enemies" with nuclear weapons for many years so can Israel (even though they don't have a weapon).

Sanctions failed because India, China, and Japan all said fuck off and even the EU said to delay it 6 months. Israel's own intelligence is now reporting Iran does not have the bomb. They dont want war with Iran. But Bibi being the hubris psycho that he is doesn't care and he know Obama is too much of a vagina to do anything about it. However Bibi can't act alone. Israel knows they are not strong enough to take out the sites and that Iran could really demolish them in a return fire. Israel could not even fight off Hezbollah.
I believe Bibi "wants" to attack Iran. But I don't believe he can. He is basically flipping out like a spoiled child screaming at America to do it already but America just can't, though that would hand the election to Paul.

I am shocked that Syria was ever stable fo as long as it was other than I guess the unity all groups had against Israeli aggression and thieves. Syria is a classic example if the ills of COLLECTIVISM you have all these different rigid factions usually religious nonsense at each others throats. That is the result of wide spread collectivism and people defining themselves as groups based on childish faiths or even dumber on ethnicities.

Yes religion is a problem in that area. Syria is a mix of several religions. One of my neighbors for example, are Druids are as "wiki" define them Neo-Druidry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-Druidism (they believe in god tho and see Jesus as a reincarnation of other prophets)

There are so many different sects and it takes very little to set them all off on one another.

When people ask what I am I say a person. If they ask what I believe, I say I don't, I prefer to know. If they ask what me religion is I laugh and say religion no I'm a grown up. People of other faiths no matter how many of them there are, do not threaten me, because my beliefs are firmly based in reality rather than faith and force. They have no more luck with their god theories than with unicorn theories or peanut-butter stealing gnomes.
