Israel, Defeated
Round one: Lebanon, 1 – Israel, 0
Quote: "This is a defeat for Israel on every level: militarily, politically, and diplomatically. It is also a stunning setback for the War Party, which is already falling back on the argument that its platform, far from being discredited, was never acted on in the first place. As Jim Lobe points out, they are directing their fire at the Israelis for not killing enough Lebanese, and, now, for signing on to the cease-fire.
They may be down, but they are not out – not by a long shot. The cease-fire is fragile, and as we have seen, the Israelis are adept at provoking minor incidents and then blowing them out of proportion to carry out their preexisting agenda. However, in the developing regional conflict pitting Israel and the U.S. against Iran and Syria, we have to award round one to the latter. And for that, Tel Aviv and Washington have no one to blame but themselves."

Well, I hope for the cease-fire to continue, but I think we all know that is not likely to happen. I think alot of people are surprised it even lasted what is nearly a 24 hour period. That is assuming nothing has developed in the last few hours b/c I've been doing chores, then I just finished watching 9/11: Press for Truth.
Anyways, my prediction for worst case scenario is...
the cease fire ending in a long range attack from Lebanon on Tel-Aviv. This would be the pretext for a large scale expansion of the war in Lebanon and would be blamed on, at the very least, Syria, but probably also, Iran, for providing the long range capability to Hezbollah. This alone, seems to be the probable outcome if Israel's Mossad and LAP Dept. truly are the masters of deception that many people claim them to be. If it does happen, I will further be convinced of this belief, simply because it would lead to a full scale escalation that I doubt anyone in the region, with any sense, would want. Of course, those people never cease to amaze me. Good night and good luck.

I agree. This may not be the first battle Israel lost, but it's the first war.
I fear more irrational actions by Israel since it's plans have been thwarted by the card they thought would be easiest to win.
Cheers Ry

Its doubtful a ceasefire would hold at all, its not going to do the Israeli leaders any good politically I reckon if they leave it as it is, they have suffered a bloody nose, not something Israel takes well.

The things I wonder about are the following. First, why did it take the international community so long to call a cease fire? It only enabled Israel to move up to the Litani River. Israeli has attempted several times since its beginning to grab this water source.
There was really no reason to stall. This was a blatantly unjustified attack on the part of Israel.
Now Israel is saying that it won´t leave Lebanon until there is an "international peacekeeping force" in place. Can´t help but feel that the international force will only act as a proxy force for Israeli interests.
The fact that Israeli demands that Hizbollah be disarmed are being considered. That Israel be disarmed is not even mentioned. Actually Congress is now discussing sending them the F-22. If anything they are being rewarded.
Is this a loss for Israel?
