The research shows men who spend even a few minutes in the company of an attractive woman perform less well in tests designed to measure brain function than those who chat to someone they do not find attractive.

Researchers who carried out the study, published in the Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, think the reason may be that men use up so much of their brain function or 'cognitive resources' trying to impress beautiful women, they have little left for other tasks.

The findings have implications for the performance of men who flirt with women in the workplace, or even exam results in mixed-sex schools.

Women, however, were not affected by chatting to a handsome man.

This may be simply because men are programmed by evolution to think more about mating opportunities.

Psychologists at Radboud University in The Netherlands carried out the study after one of them was so struck on impressing an attractive woman he had never met before, that he could not remember his address when she asked him where he lived.

Researchers said it was as if he was so keen to make an impression he 'temporarily absorbed most of his cognitive resources.'

To see if other men were affected in the same way, they recruited 40 male heterosexual students.

Each one performed a standard memory test where they had to observe a stream of letters and say, as fast as possible, if each one was the same as the one before last.

The volunteers then spent seven minutes chatting to male or female members of the research team before repeating the test.

The results showed men were slower and less accurate after trying to impress the women. The more they fancied them, the worse their score.

But when the task was repeated with a group of female volunteers, they did not get the same results. Memory scores stayed the same, whether they had chatted to a man or a woman.

In a report on their findings the researchers said: 'We conclude men's cognitive functioning may temporarily decline after an interaction with an attractive woman.'

Psychologist Dr George Fieldman, a member of the British Psychological Society, said the findings reflect the fact that men are programmed to think about ways to pass on their genes.

'When a man meets a pretty woman, he is what we call 'reproductively focused'.

'But a woman also looks for signs of other attributes, such as wealth, youth and kindness. Just the look of the man would be unlikely to have the same effect

thats hella interesting

women aren't very visual compared to men. It's sucks for guys because visual stimulation is very poopooed in our society and seen as shallow. Yet lusting after wealth and materiel possession is normal lol.

Women also tend to like whoever they perceive other women like. If enough magazines hype up Jonas brothers then they are hot, if it's Leonardo DeCaprio then he's hot etc. Men who look almost just like them don't matter. It has to be them. If other girls want them and yet you can have him then you are better than they are. And its competition like that. Women are secretly evil creatures.

Guys will like a girl no one has ever heard of whose name they don't even know just by how she looks. She might not even have the same language, she might not even be real, but they'll like her.

Girls like imagination. They'd rather read about sex than watch it. Not always but the fact that the two can compete at all is enough. A man could care less about reading about sex. He wants to see naked women that's all that matters. Case in point 95% of porn is for men, 95% of dirty books/novels with no pictures other than the cover are for girls and gay guys.

Is she mysterious, does she have money, she have a sense of humor etc it doesn't matter at all, the questions never even come to mind. All that comes to mind is, is she hot? and is she over 18? If yes on both then she's good to go.

Im a women and none of what you wrote would fit with me at all.

You also have a fairly enlightened view of politics...which I have found in all of....maybe three women I have met in my lifetime? I know once I meet a girl that has any similar interests in music or anything else that I'm into, I go nuts. "Wait....you listen to Meshuggah?" I'd rather pick up girls at a library than a club. But I'm also very aware that I'm the minority in this respect.

And I challenge that. I guarantee you don't enjoy porn as much as any man on the board. Or at least just a typical male. Do you look at it everyday? Cum to it? How many hours are spent on it? Don't answer just answer in your head.

I used to work in a bar. I'd see this over and over. You can even see it in clothing stores when young girls come to shop in herds. But normally all that is a girl pressuring another girl to buy something she actually wants so that she can "borrow" it later but not have to pay for it. And the Beta Female (the sucker) will fall for it. Cause she knows that's the only reason alpha is shopping with her.

We used to set guys up like this back in school. Hot friends of mine would pretend to like a guy and say in front of the girl he liked how cute he was etc. Suddenly the girl that never liked that person before did. Classic alpha female trick.

And the opposite works too. If a bunch of a girls friends rip on a guy then he is toast. She'll listen to them more than her own eyes. Moral of the story, be nice to the ugly friend [without flirting] and she will build you up and you're good as gold. (plus you should be nice to people anyway)

It's why a lot of performers you could be dog ugly still get laid even by hot women. All a woman needs to do is see other women giving you enough attention and they want you.

Guys will like performers too, if they are hot. But they'd like them anyway.

hahahahah, ry, you are soo spot on, 100%, with what you said in your last two posts. women will deny it with a passion, but its all true. its interesting to hear what every guys has come to learn about women put into words like that, but i think its a product of the American culture. the society and TV kind of breeds people to think the way that they do, it teaches people how to think and how people interact, societal norms, etc.
