Wearing hijab isn't oppressive either since they wear it by choice.
you reckon?
in places like iran and saudi they have "morality cops" arresting women for showing a bit of ankle. Do you think such fucked up cops would exist if most women wore it by choice?
the headscarf/jilbab is by far the most ugliest and most uncomfortable attire ever invented, seriously how many women do you think
choose to wear it? from my experience most are forced and behind their parents back wear what they want. i use to have arguments that lasted for up to 4 hours because i did not want to wear the headscarf, and that was on top of the usual arguments families have. A couple a weeks ago i was going to the job centre, my dad was going to the same place, he refused to walk with me and went a different route because i did not wear a headscarf, even though i must have told him a thousand times i am an atheist.
Why shouldn't people hold islam responsible for honour killings? it mostly happens in their communities. Its a bit naive to say "they happen all over the world" while ignoring the fact that honour killings in the west are carried out by immigrants/ethnic minorities who are almost always muslims. I don't know any freshy immigrant imam that has ever condemned honour killings, and i doubt you do either.
I consider judaism responsible for zionism even though not all jews are zionists. I see no reason why people should not see islam responsible for honour killings. These people that carry out such atrocious crimes cite islam as a justification.
And the punishment for adultery in islam is stoning to death. For sex before marriage it is 100 lashes. I'm sure the muslim members have read about it so i won't bother quoting the scriptures. I can see why so many muslims think that honour killings are ok, a 100 lashes is enough to kill a person or cause severe injury for life.
turkey is a secular country where many muslims drink alcohol and eat pork and shit like honour killings are the norm. its beyond belief

Honor killings are a cultural practice, which does not have roots in Islam.
A Christian honor killing in PalestineHonor killings among the (mostly Yazidi) KurdsIt was even legal in Columbia (until relatively recently) for a husband to kill his wife for adultery.
It's so obviously a cultural practice, I don't see any reason why Islam should be held responsible for it. It just so happens that the regions where it is so prevalent also happen to be regions that are predominantly Muslim.
At most, Islam may influence what is considered to be "dishonor to the family/tribe" with its morality, but what is actually done about it by the family is entirely cultural, and has existed at one point in time or another, at virtually everywhere in the world, regardless of religion:
Women Everywhere Losing Their Lives to Honor KillingsLike I've said before, just because a Muslim does something, doesn't necessarily mean that it's because of their religion.
