You can't even really tell the difference between insane and religious other than that the religion has been established as having it's own brand of insanity passed on to an idiot where as regular insanity at least requires some creativity on the part of the crazy person.

In the modern world psychology has to give religion a pass because under any other context those same beliefs would constitute major schizophrenia, delusion, paranoia, and narcissism all at the same time.

Might not the tribalism of the Obama cult not be like a religion, in that it can by-pass whatever intelligent, or higher judgment, parts of the brain their maybe and create a belief based on a pre-ordained conclusion not only without evidence but contrary to it?

I mean look at all the anti-war people who voted for him or should I say against Bush. Right now as Obama continues or expands all of Bush's policies, they are rationalizing it, making excuses, and denying events happening right in front of them.

It's not a "religion" per se because it doesn't require the supernatural in it's dogma, but still it works like a religion in it's level of stupidity and denial. Is this part of the human condition. Attach yourself to something and once done, it can do no wrong. Maybe it's not religion that makes people crazy but crazy people who make religion as crazy as it is. Tribalism/group think is stronger than the dogma itself.

I mean the dogma could be anything, earth sitting on a giant turtle, resurrecting infanticide man, Mt. Olympius soap operas, The sun creating people to make super big buildings for, kill for the special (holy) real estate, or special race, god, die but come back to life as animals clan, talking volcano whatever.

Just a thought.

Could false hope be the unifier, or unity through a common enemy, aka, hate.

It's hilarious to me that people will scoff at how silly the greeks were for believing in hercules and cyclopses, and zeus and all that bullshit, when the people today believe basically the same damn thing!

Actually the Greeks had some evidence they thought for cyclops and giants and such. For example the old Mammoth Elephant bones they found looked like giant people only with one large eye socket where the truck was and the trunk didn't leave behind any bones obviously because it doesn't have any. The finger and toe bones were missing as they almost always are with human remains so to them it looked like they found giants. These elephants had a grave yard like modern elephants so when the Greek found them all together they assumed it was a giant battle field of the ancient warriors.

The griffin stories sit right over top of the findings of triceratops who do have a lion like body but beaks like a bird, their hood armor looks like wing bones as a skeleton. Like giant birds they laid eggs, some of which were petrified, and they were found mid way up cliffs giving the illusion they they flew.

Dinosaur bones of large plant eaters which were discovered while looking for minerals or planing cities, became the dragons and sea serpents, for they could not understand how these things could be preserved under usual conditions in the land thus they assumed that they had to be rather recent and still living among them.

So the Greeks ideas were even less stupid than today's faiths. Cooler too.

I give people of the earth a pass when it comes to religion thousands of years ago but in today's world it has caused too much division, war and hate.

The tribal religions have one thing in commom with islam, christianity, hinduism, and so on.... complete bullshit based on nothing out of fear of the unknown. What makes them different is Christianity says or for over a thousand years was interpreted as saying: Kill everyone who does not believe exactly what you do. Torture them, steal everything and kill them off because it is God's will.

Thus Europe was conquered by the Romans and then Western Europe conquered the western hemisphere. Now religious groups kill each other in the middle east and all over Africa. Sure there are still a few Pagans in Europe and a few tribes left in the Americas but 99% are dead.

When will the world realize how tragic this is and stop religious wars? Never

I agree.

I will say, there has never been a war in the name of Buddhism. Buddhism is the true religion of peace but no one needs Buddhism to be peaceful.

The question of god is just a question of ones level of fear but also ones level of love. Gods are man made and a reflection of that person. Unlike theist religions, Buddhism is more a pointing at oneself verses a reflection.
