There are a lot of fat people out there. Here's the classification I found on the unreliable wikipedia site, from normal, to overweight, to obese:

Weight is not a measure of Fat.

OK fat is fat. Weight is not fat. You have other things in your body to give it weight namely Muscle which weighs more than fat, and bone which also weights more. There is also flesh aka meat which is not fat and weights just as much as fat. Trying to rank fat based on weight is as stupid as trying to measure smarts based on head size. It's totally ridiculous.

I'm 185cm and 205lbs there are other people my size with less muscle and way more fat that weight exactly the same as me. Weight to Height is a completely retarded way to measure for being over weight or obese.

i could careless how big or small someone is. If someone is over weight then they know it. And they either want to be that way or don't. And it's a totally personal issue. As far as how they measure these things for stats. That's all bull. You can't measure weight and then guess at fat knowing nothing more than how tall a person is. How much of their body is legs verse torso? How strong are they? How big are their breasts? How large is their head? How thick are their bones? Do they have any metal in their body? How hydrated are they? There are too many variables.

You can't say that Americans aren't fat. they are. sure the statistics may be bullshit, but let's be honest even if they are not the fatetst country in the world they are right up there.

I'm in Scotland and we have our fair share of fatties.., I was looking around at some of the fat people i see at work. it's incredible how large people can be. but it's pretty much all to do with diet.

Some people try to blame genetics but that it largely horseshit too. Americans are genetically diverse yet hav more than its fair share of fatties. when i've been to south korea you hardly see any fat people. pretty much every Korean eats Kimchi (spicy pickled cabbage) which is very healthy for you. They eat this everyday, some with every meal (i'm not exagerrating). it contains Chillies which speed up your metabolism and also garlic which is very good for you. I've met a fair number of people here in the UK who hardly eat any veegtables. sure east asian are generally thin. But I'm sure this is far more to do with diet than any genetic factor. Sure some people may have naturally higher metabolisms than others but your metabolism is also affected by what you eat and you're willingness not to be lazy.

Another reason people are fatter now I think is to do with the fact that it's much easier to be lazy in today's society. more public trasnsport and many more cars. more cheapr, readily available fast food, ready meals etc.

on and of course how could I forget... sausage in a pancake!

I lived in Japan and yes pretty much everyone was thin and also short. I live on Hatteras Island now and pretty much everyone is thin here too. And this island is pretty much 98% white 2% Native American and .001% asian.

We're in America but guess what we don't have. Fast food. It doesn't exist on the Island. Ah but all through out Japan there is fast food and they eat it just like Americans. I've seen Japanese people far more and far more crap than Americans. They also like to drink like everyday as well. And they smoked which I guess would make you lose weight but they were thin before that because in school before anyone sarts smoking they were already thin. BUT here is an interesting difference.

In Japan as well as Hatteras, it's perfectly OK to tell someone they are fat and just dog them for it. Post WWII many Japanese people had little or nothing to eat. If you were fat you were greedy, it became very taboo. Well it kind of never left. The openness for people to confront someone who is fat is still prevalent and they can try to help them. And they do believe there is something to help. I work at a highschool, almost no one is over weight. I mean there aare maybe 7 out of 700 who aren't thin. And it was the same way in Japan although there were people under weight there. But outside these island if you tell someone they are fat then you're a jerk. However if some one is short or strangely tall you can make comments all day.

In the US it's kind of like getting old. People can joke about it. You can even say he's too old for that now etc BUt man you do NOT want to mention age in Japan.

Now in Virginia it was a totally different story at my college generally people were thin, just outside the school in the city it seemed like nothing but aunt Jamaimas. Tote well tell you Hampton is much the same way. I'm talking about 300 lbs women and 350 lbs men pure fat too like a door frame wide behind.

Yeah BMI is flawed because it doesn't account for muscle,but the vast majority of people do not workout enough, or at all, to have any significant amount of muscle that would skew the results. You have to be pretty jacked for it to make a difference.
