It would also be a good thing because then japan can innovate away from the dependence on oil. (okay, oil is needed for quite a large array of goods but less gasoline would be okay too).

I;ll have the results posted. Thing are looking good. It's not that I am a huge fan of the JDP but anything is better than the LDP. It's not like here where all parties are the same. The JDP will not assit the US in Afghanistan and will try to removed US bases from ALL of JAPAN!!

My understanding (likely wrong) is that Japan doesn’t have a standing army. So if someone started dropping bombs on Japan, who would help them? They would need to get help from either China, Russia, or the US is the way I see it. I also wonder how base closure would affect the local economy? Either way the US bases shouldn’t be in Japan unless the bases are welcome there.

No that was a clause in the constitution after WWII and it lasted only 2 years 1951 it was amended. (because oof the Korean War) Japan has a massive military (called a defense force). They are just banned from premptive war. If they are atacked however they have a full green light to anihilate whoever did it. They do not need US bases there at all. If anything the US being there makes them more of a target.


If Japan is hit it will be by terrorist attack, no one is going to try a full scale invasion of a first world nation like Japan. It's just not happening. Japan has more drones than any nation, more gold, 2nd largets navy, amazing production power and manufacturing, 9th in population, allies with everyone strong, the most advanced armor including some primative invisibility, and probably more nerds per capita than anywhere. And nerd win high tech battles.

plus have you seen their mini-copters? They are only like 5 feet long and pack missiles but can be flown be remote control. They can't be detected until you physically see them and they can swarm in thousands.

Japan is the strongest non-nuclear country in the world.
