my point exactly: i got a message from a soldier
i understand if you don't support the war and all of that, but it's not up to the troops. soldiers don't get to pick where they want to go or what they want to do. and most of them are soldiers because they have few opportunities and nowhere else to go. soldiers to what they are told or they go to jail....simple as that. and we get court-marshallled, which is 10x worse than any other justice system in America.
and about "soldiers are supposed to protect civilians from that right?"...not really...only their own civilians from their own country.
i'm just tired of all the negative crap about america and all of that...even you should be tired of hearing it. i mean, troops never got a thank you for wiping out 85% of the terrorists in Afghanistan. and they were ready to do some damage too. not only did we protect our own country, we protected many others they were after from terrorist acts.
Everytime I talk to soldiers over Myspace and they tell me things like this I simply give them an explanation on their responsibilities. I tell them how they are given a gun, which is a weapon that not even the best fighter in the world can counter (unless he is close enough and fast enough to swipe it). So if you have such a weapon it's YOUR responsibility to make sure you are not abusing it and targeting the wrong people. It is also YOUR responsibility not to be a pawn. Although I agree that not all soldiers deserve death, I do agree that they are ignorant and/or stupid and need to suffer some punishment but the right one depending on their involvement. Like a rapist soldier needs to be tortured, but a regular soldier who hasn't even been to Iraq yet but still participates in Military action needs to say, pay a fine or something...
