Shockingly, 85 percent of the troops questioned believe they are fighting in Iraq "to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks" – one of the key Iraq War myths built by Bush’s frequent juxtaposition of references to Osama bin-Laden and Saddam Hussein.
This subliminal message has stuck with the vast majority of U.S. troops even though Bush eventually acknowledged publicly that there is no evidence linking Saddam to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

There is no such thing as a subliminal message.
It is just a downright lie.

this may sound mean but the military isn't exactly made up of our best and brightest, certainly not the brightest.
It seems to me like all the most hateful kind of Christians (the tards among the tards) and the usual high school fuck ups that land in the military, are buying into the neocon's lies because they dont care whats true, They will accept any excuse to go kill people, to go act on their prejudice and hatred for all things not WASP.

thats very true...
my personal experience: the people in my school interested in the military that i know are all not the brightest ive known... ya know... the ones with grades in the 50's and 60's... and also the hunters/"i like killing things" kind of person. i think most people in the military get smarter after they've already went through training, and by then its too late for them to think for themselves.

Quote: Yes, many of the kids that go off to fight in wars are conservatives/Church-going or whatever, but when you realize that a lot of the kids that go out there are poor, a bit dimwitted, or both, you see that those kids are just pawns...
how (until now with the internet) can you really expect a poor person to be able to research the conflict he'd be fighting about/the history behind it if he's busy working all day at minimum wage?
I never said they were not pawns. Some are militant jerks some are just pawns. Its variying degrees of wrong.
It is simple you do not have to do much research to know that you do not want to go kill people who you have never met.
I admit not all of them are assholes some of them are just sadly complete dumb fucks who think they are fighting for freedom and killing terrorist who attacked us on 911. But that level of stupidity warrants willful ignorance. I guess at least they have good intentions but they don't live in reality they can not tell fact from fiction.
its sad, the school system weeds out young men on purpose. Because it needs cannon fodder for the army.

I know two old neighbors of mine joined the marines after high school for 2 reasons. They weren't bright enough (actually I should say too lazy) for college, and they wanted to Kill people legally (this is what they told me). They came from a very broken family....the sister of these two boys got pregnant at 16...the kid was legally adopted by her parents and to this day (he's what now...13) still doesn't know that who he thinks is his sister is really hsi mother (they pulled her out of highschool because of embarassment..smart move)..She ended up getting pregnant again at the age of 23 by a 16 year old..yup you got it.. and had a little girl who now has leukemia (oh yeah and the family is extremely pro-lfe, so much for both these kids). Perfect......eh?
anyway...the father of these three, left the mother a long time ago...htey havent' seen their real father since he left them when they were young. The mother remarried, however the stepfather had no say whatsoever on these kid's life. They are a "perfect" xtian family...good hearted "moral" republicans with two boys who joined the marines and made their mother proud. These people don't read the news, dismiss democrats or anything they consider liberal....or "left wing" and just get their news from their church. This..is some of hte people I know who are dying for the "freedoms" of this country. These are the people who think Saddam masterminded somehow 9-11. It falls in line with the propaganda and lies of deception used to further this bullshit.
I had a chance to go to any Military academy in the states (meaning, enjoy the military life wihtout ever seeing the front lines: free healthcare, cheap food and clothes, etc..etc..etc..) VMI, Naval Academy in Norfolk any of them with a letter of recommendation from Colin Powell, Admiral Crow as well as the Director of Naval Intelligence admiral Schaeffer (my father was a carreer navy man and worked for the three people above with high regards). I refused all of it. Went to college got loans, got educated, and got a brain instead.
