Even if Iran is a regime, any kind of military action and the first casualties will be Iran's home grown democracy movement.

The fact that the Islamic Revolution was taken over by Dogmatic old men who could rally crowds, their funding came from the USA. It's a regime, it's not perfect, but it's getting somewhere.
Other reasons include funding pro-Mugabe radio in Zimbabwe, not being very nice to Kurds... etc. etc.
Islamic Republic or a regime, call it what you want, it's a bit shitty but that's not our problem. Every country has an indegenous democracy movement.
