Post subject:  Hatteras

Okay do you guys want a battle we can win and make a very positive change? The Bonner bridge to Hatteras a 2 out of 100 in saftely and is the only source for electricity, running water and route off Hatteras Island of Hatteras. 7 days a week a dredge removes sand from under the bridge to keep the rich fishing industry of another island in business bu giving them an inlet to reach the ocean with. The dredging removes sand that would have closed the inlet 40 years ago and creates an increase in erosion to the beautiful National Park, Pea Island and buried the only road in or out of Hatteras as a result. People on the island are already over an hour from the nearest hospital. The bridge is going to fall and I hope to God a school bus isn't on it when it does. The falling of the bridge would devastate Hatteras Island but it would help the economy of larger towns that run the local politics by cutting out Hatteras as an option for hundreds of thousands of tourists that would then go to places like Nags Head and Manteo.

We have been fighting to get the bridge replaced or the dredging of sand stopped for over 30 years and the situation is getting desperate. Hatteras Island has no local news station and no newspaper. They have one representative on the board of commissioners and the towns up the beach have a room full and the Senate pro temp Marc Basnight who has even actually spoken to the desperation and plea of those who want it replaced.

The bridge was broken by a barge that hit it in 1991 and the northern towns saw the great economic boost it gave them. I lived on Hatteras island then and had no electricity for 2 months, no running water, and the food trucks and others could not get down to restock shelves in the few stores we had. It was a horrible time for those with babies, no formula, diapers or the sick or elderly who could not get medications. No one gave a damn and we were left 5 hours now from a hospital and a 3 hour ferry ride to the mainland thanks to the traffic, while folks in Nags Head said to leave it like that. Do not let greed overcome copassion for your fellow man.
There is no way in heck if the roles wee reversed that the bridge would not have been replaced decades ago. People in Hatteras provide 33% of Dare Counties revenue and pay the same high taxes and up the beach but that money goes into the millions spent sucking away sand 7 days a week for the yachts of pirates cove.

The people of Hatteras Island are most effected by this bridge collapes and have pretty much zero say in what happens. It is wrong and needs to change. Get you heads out of the sand and pretend to have some respect for the people of Hatteras.

The problem is that no media will report on this issue and thus there is no pressure put on the politicians. Hundreds of Thousands of tourists enjoy the Island but they are unaware of the current situation. I am sure they would lend us a voice if they knew about what was going on.

We are going to have to break this on the web-media first. And force the issue.

You have this rant in 2 places dude!!! So my reply will be in 2 places!! Its like taking the drug twice! Twice as much fun :D

Residents of Dare County and other concerned people from across the state of North Carolina have setup camp on the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge. They have concerns that are legitimate:
•The replacement options for the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge have been under study for over 16 years with no clear resolution in sight.

•Since 2002, NCDOT bridge inspections have rated the bridge a 2 out of 100 (100 being the best score). Over 6 million vehicles have passed over the bridge since the 2002 inspection.

•Daily traffic over the bridge can be as high as 10,000 vehicles per day in the summertime. The emergency ferry plan is inadequate to serve those needs. 87% of the current summer traffic could not be accommodated, weather depending.

•93% of the Cape Hatteras National seashore and 100% of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge would be inaccessible to the citizens of the United States if the Bonner Bridge was lost.

Contact only media that is not located in your county as they get revenue from local advertizers, out of area media, contacted ahead of time love these kind of stories. If enough residents can make it. DONT camp ON the bridge they just may make an accident happen, camp at both ends of the bridge. Can you put an ad in the papers for 100miles around for a nice day to stage the sit-in? It got attention in the 70's.
Talking to your corrupt state and county officials hasn't accomplished anything. Any other suggestions??
The local media's will report this, the MSM may not grab it, since it isn't political enough I think it has a good chance of working, or I will refund the money you spent for the miracles you purchased from me.

how the fuck does this have over 400 reads? I posted it this morning. I wish I had proof read the thing now. Anyway this is great.

The point is the bridge is going to fall, which means death for anyone who is on it and the loss of power, running water and way on or off the island for the 4,000 people who live on the island.

It has been rated a 2 out of 100. It needs to be replaced now period. Forget about why this has not happened and the corruption of Manteo and how they spend millions sucking sand from under the bridge (some of the pilings don't even touch the ground anymore!) The point is to replace it now. We knoe Manteo is responsible for adding to the distabalization of the bridge and are the ones who sit in the way of a replacement.

It is wrong and the world needs to know what these people are doing to Hatteras Island.

I just posted two more videos that are better no offense Ry. I am ready to lead this charge being that I live near and must cross that bridge. The second video by Wavy 10 made a mistake, the long bridge would be 1.4 billion dollars not million and the short bridge would be 30 million. The long bridge idea was to go around the national park who are the ones holding things up but the long bridge would tripple gas, water and electric bills for the island and would cost more, take longer and be closed anytime the wind was 35 or more which out here is a lot.

Because I posted a video on youtube which get a couple hundred a day and I sent it to WRH with a letter.

You should post your new better videos on this thread because this thread is being linked to today by very large sites. I earned that right by writing against the government for 5 years.
