Im ready for space ships. Be a modern day adventure of space like Star Trek. I always said I wish I was born in the future. I wouldn't want to go back to the past. Think about going to the dentist back then...

Is that 72 degrees C?

And I assume the temperature is not uniform throughout the planet.

how do they know something 600 light years away has water and is 72 degrees. Wouldn't the best data mean it used to have those things 600 years ago but right now we dont know because we are looking at its past.

Yeah, I agree. But are you now suggesting there might be climate change? :)

What do you mean, we dont know what Venus is yet?
means we dont know yet what venus's atmosphere is we guess at it

no 22C and 72F

Correct. as explained above. it has poles and temp difference. the planet is round and does rotate

We do 'know' what the atmosphere of Venus is:

Venus Atmosphere

Surface pressure: 92 bars
Surface density: ~65. kg/m3
Scale height: 15.9 km
Total mass of atmosphere: ~4.8 x 1020 kg
Average temperature: 737 K (464 C)
Diurnal temperature range: ~0
Wind speeds: 0.3 to 1.0 m/s (surface)
Mean molecular weight: 43.45 g/mole
Atmospheric composition (near surface, by volume):
Major: 96.5% Carbon Dioxide (CO2), 3.5% Nitrogen (N2)
Minor (ppm): Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) - 150; Argon (Ar) - 70; Water (H2O) - 20;
Carbon Monoxide (CO) - 17; Helium (He) - 12; Neon (Ne) - 7

No we dont. They change it all the time. I talk to the nerds directly involved in this stuff. They have no idea and the real data we have is from probes not spectrometry. They didn't know for a long time the clouds were H2SO4 and guestimate on the surface and guess at what it is made of and assume there isn't any water as there is no method to put carbon back into the ground and believe hydrogen has floated away but they dont know. We know a lot more about Mars.

'they' don't change it all the time
I am a nerd involved in stuff like this. I did research out of Flagstaff, AZ on cataclysmic variable stars and my undergrad is in physics.

Yes they do. Venus is a mystery. Japan tried sending a probe last year and it failed there are more set for 2014 and another 2020 from Russia. The US of course is too broke. The point was the only way to get any of the data was to probe the planet. We cant send anything is as the acid would destroy it. We certainly could not guess at it with spectro because if you dont know what the atmosphere is then you cant really guess what light is doing. You can tell the probability of the core being metal or not by magnetic feilds but thats about it. We dont even know whats on the bottom of our own oceans yet much less planets 600 light years away. However there is no way to call them out on it. We only recently learned Saturns rings were not just gas but mountains and solid. Not even 1 light year away not even close. SO forgive me when they say its 600 light years away but its 72 degreees and may have oceans. At minimal they should say it may have had oceans and how it is currently we dont know.
