Dragon skin armor rejected over Politics not Science

John Kerry may only trail Joe Lieberman in war profiteering in the imperial senate, however Kerry's profits are particularly sinister to the troops.

Kerry's promoted and invested in his state's companies making "protective clothing" for the troops and helped acquire money for the FY of 2008 to buy more of it (8.6 million) including the inferior body armor "Interceptor armor" which is made by US Army Natick and outfitted by the Lawrence company's Polartec. The better armor Dragon Skin has been ignored despite it surpassing Interceptor in all independent tests for all ranges of fire.

How much of this went to troops in Iraq? None, some don't even have BASIC body armor on many of their vehicles. And the Interceptor body armor they have now is heavy and doesn't even wrap around the whole torso. We shouldn't be in Iraq in the first place, but you think the people who sent them there would want to at least give them the best armor. Maybe Iran can buy some dragon armor through third parties. Of course the US would send it for free to Israel before anything else.

Apparently elite soldiers, the CIA, and generals get to wear the Dragon Skin.

Gee why block the better armor before it was even tested? Hmm well duh, let's follow the money trail. Now Interceptor armor is made by US Army Natick and outfitted by the Lawrence company's Polartec. Obviously since it doesn't work as well as Dragon Skin there must be an economic battle going on here. But Natick would need someone powerful. Someone like a Senator, or two maybe even a Congresswoman on their side to win this fight over body armor.

Well just last month look at this; (From Kerry's own official government website.

Kerry, Kennedy, Tsongas Announce Lawrence Company to Receive $8.6 million for Production of Protective Military Clothing

Quote:
Washington, DC – Senators John Kerry and Edward Kennedy today, along with Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, announced that the FY 2008 Department of Defense Appropriations Conference Report includes $8.6 million for the purchase of protective military clothing which is made at Polartec in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

“This investment helps a great company and its workers who have made huge sacrifices to keep good jobs right here in Massachusetts while strengthening our military and securing our homeland,” said Senator Kerry. “Polartec has long been a leader and I’m happy that it will continue to design better, safer protective clothing for our troops.

“Since the days of the Minutemen, Massachusetts has been at the forefront of the defense of our nation, and today Polartec is an important part of that effort, protecting our nation’s finest in dangerous parts of the world,” said Senator Kennedy. “I’m delighted that Polartec is receiving this vital federal funding to continue the innovative work they do so well for our troops.”

“Senators Kennedy and Kerry, as well as former Congressman Meehan, have been critical supporters of Polartec and of our men and women in uniform,” said Rep. Tsongas. “I look forward to joining their efforts to support Polartec in its continued mission to provide our troops with world-class equipment and to stimulate the local economy through keeping good jobs in the Fifth District. Polartec is a model for what a partnership between the federal government and local business can look like.”

“Senator Kennedy, Senator Kerry and Congresswoman Tsongas’ commitment to ensuring that our men and women in uniform receive this vital gear remains unwavering,” said Polartec President Andy Vecchione. “It is an honor to work with them to facilitate getting top-notch products made by our workers into the hands of those who need them most – our soldiers. Their combined efforts continue to directly impact our 1000 employees here in Massachusetts and we are extremely grateful for their hard work.”

The Polartec projects receiving funding are the following:

$3.2 million for the Fleece Insulating Liners for Extended Cold Weather Clothing System Generation III (ECWCS-GEN III)

Currently soldiers and units of the Army use obsolete cold-weather clothing. The ECWCS GEN III was developed in direct response to soldiers’ complaints of bulkiness and lack of breathability as an existing issue. Soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan often suffer from overheating when active and cold when standing still. This radical redesign of ECWCS requires 33% less space and weighs 25% less than previous generations, allowing soldiers to move with greater ease.

$2 million for the Multi Climate Protection System (MCPS)

The Multi Climate Protection System is a modular ensemble that provides total performance by layering thermal protection shell garments. Polartec Thermal-Flame Resistant (FR) with NOMEX fleece knit structures provide aircrew with enhanced thermal protection, flame protection and reduced thermal burden via dimensional moisture management. Wind and water resistance capabilities are obtained using Polartec WindPro with NOMEX in the outer layer wear.

$1 million for Responsive Textiles

The US Army Natick Soldier Center has recognized a need for reducing the weight and bulk of the war fighter while maintaining breathability and as-needed insulation. A single responsive garment would replace a multitude of layers, allowing for maximum mobility in varying environments. This funding will research the feasibility of a Responsive Textile concept, estimate costs, manufacture a prototype concept, and conduct fabric testing, bulk testing, and thermal analysis of the prototype concept under varying temperatures.

$2.4 million for the Cold Weather Layering System (CWLS)

The requested funds will be used to provide war Fighters with a “capability set” of clothing to facilitate expeditionary operations in mountainous and cold weather environments. It will reduce the weight and volume that a Marine operating as dismounted infantry must carry to accomplish combat missions in those conditions. Malden Mills is currently developing Polartec Poweder Dry Silkweight, and Polartec Dry Grid with flame resistant properties for use in the CWLS, in direct response to the U.S. Marine Corps’ unique combat needs. Roadside bombs kill or wound more troops than any other weapon in Iraq. The heat and flame produced by roadside bombs presents a significant burn threat, and the USMC has called for the use of flame resistant textiles to maintain safety in harsh combat conditions
.

They just shamelessly feed off of one another.
Man they got to hate me for digging this stuff up. I'll just keep at it too. And I am in Japan where they can't "patriot Act me."

And guess who sits on the Arms Service Committee in the Senate, and is running for president? Hillary Clinton. Surely she must be aware of the body armor debate but hasn't done a things but approve the money for the lesser goods. All these people care about are careers and profit. They don't give a damn about the Iraqis or the US troops, both are just there fighting so that these psychopaths can profit from it.

updated april 6th 2008 after discovering that Kerry had the second highest war profits and that he invested in the companies he helped allocate money.

Ah you saw my comment cool.

Yeh the only real use it would have would be for cops and I really don't want cops to have anything.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. On bullet impact the dummy rocked backwards! That's not what all of us have been thaught on physics 101 à la warren report! That fucking dummy should have flung violently forward for crying out loud. Goddamned he should be arrested for defying the laws of warren report physics. Somebody do something!

Just kidding.
Awesome body armor.

the metal was held still if the metal was allowed to fly backwards it would lessen the impact. Imagine trying to hit through a piece of paper that just moves compared to one held tight. Likewise imagine hitting a board held tight compared to one just sitting on a pillow allowed to fly back. It make a bit of difference.

Just in. John Kerry (whose congression district includes the Mass companies making the inferior armor which is dragon skin's competition) is the second largest war profiteer in the whole congress.

Sun Tzu wrote the Art of War 2500 years ago, and it gives step by step ways of winning wars - every single time.

Now normally I'd say "these people haven't read it", but the mistakes made are so consistant, that I believe that they have actually read it and are deliberately prolonging wars.

Interesting point and cool refference.

I think this is odd but if it really works then we should use it unlike what they are using now. Although, I dont mourn the lose of the death of the soliders. I mourn that they had to die and that the govt is run by idoits.
